Smart Cards, EMV and Electronic Purses
Our strategy and product development service for bank smart
cards is designed to help banks develop applications
that will offset the high costs of implementing chips
to conform to the standards for EMV for debit and credit
cards. The strategy process is proposition driven and
seeks to examine the opportunities for own domain, alliance,
inter-bank and long term applications. The review includes
an assessment of the benefits from reduced fraud and
counterfeit, the sale of chip "real estate"
in alliance applications, the benefits of multi application
operating system (MAOS). The framework includes a market
and competitor assessment and a review of the strategic
options, business case modelling and product development
planning. Customers include a central bank, 7 major
banks and two inter-bank associations.
Smart Card Technology Selection and Implementation
We have conducted several technology assignments relating
to the chip including two major chip infrastructure
selection studies. These follow the steps of requirements
definition, requests for proposals, proposal evaluations,
reference site visits, ranking, scoring, modelling and
the final selection report.
Implementation projects have included co-ordinating
the testing of an EMV chip implementation for a UK card
scheme. Other customers include Middle Eastern, cards
schemes and central banks.
